RED POST #5

“enna sollitholacha seekaram sollu?”,my girlfriend demanded, her voice no longer in its pleasant tone but replaced by a tougher one as I was summarizing everything that night to her.
“I told her I have you nu..”
“you na avalaya???”
”unna sonen ,nan epudi avala soluven ??? kadupethatha”
“sirikatha da !!! inga theriyudhu..karumam avata poi nala valinchurukaaa???? Chaa..”
“en eppo pathalum enna sandhaega padra-“my mobile vibrated.

 INCOMING CALL BHAI

“hey wait pannu de amma call panranga thirumbi cal panren, bye ..”
“hello ??”
“thambhi nantha pa bhai pesara ,epdi iruka?? Ok..ellam seri thana?? Avan ethachum galata panana? Ilala?? seri athaavathu ba…enakandi oru help pananum nee”
 “sollunga na.. . varanuma?ippova??”
“amma ba backgate andi variya..seri konjo seekaram va.. ”

It was weird seeing him in a pant rather than in the lunge.
He looked pretty much humane though in the shirt-pant look .
He was leaning on a bike mildly rocking to and forth.
I approached him wondering what he might say.
“thambhi epdi da iruka?? Seri onula... nan urgentaa vela ponum, varathuku oru rendu moonu naal aagu..nama vasthathu oruthan ta intHa bag a kudukanum.. unga coll la than padikaran..nee kuduthariya??”
“yarta na kudukanum??”
“avanae una vanthu paka solten da..nee idha vechuru nalaiku vanthu vangipan..idha eduthutu nan suthitu iruka mudiyathu paru , isckool pasanga baguu” he laughed and gave me a black college bag.
“seri na avar paeru??”
“unaku call panuvanda..seri bye da thambi pakalam..”

I wore it on my shoulder and started walking back. it seemed very strange to see him talk normally especially when he smiled, but I felt I owed him one. Moreover I reminded myself not to attend his calls in future !

I entered the hostel gate “BHAIYA..”the gurkha stopped me.
“enna??"
“bag kattu..”
“baga velila varumbothu thana check pananum ipo ethuku..??"
“no no,sir tell. Both inside outside checking.”
Though it wasn’t a big deal It felt irritating to obey him. As I reached for the bag wondering why I hadn’t asked him what was inside- I realized.
‘idha eduthutu nan suthitu iruka mudiyathu paru’ his words raced through my mind. The way he was rocking to and fro, his smile, him asking me for help-everything meant only one thing that could possibly be in the bag-his business- DOPE.

“open bag..” the gurkha sensed the look on my face. My entire body started to sweat uncontrollably, my heart pumping more blood to my useless brain which couldn’t think of any way of escaping, the consequences were too horrible to imagine.
I looked up. The security camera was looking directly at me….
